Current account

The current account (CA) enables the holder to perform cashless payments (cards, telephone banking, online banking) and cash withdrawals (ATMs). Besides the account holder, there can be one authorized person appointed by the account holder to dispose of funds in the account up to the approved overdraft limit.

Current account holders can contract a direct debit order, i.e. a standing order for the payment of recurrent service bills such as TV subscription, telephone bills, mobile phone bills, cable TV charges, additional insurance expenses and the like. The account holder receives monthly account statements including outstanding expenses (with specification and the date of debiting the current account). If corresponding services are activated, the current account holder can receive information on the current account balance and transactions by way of telephone banking and online banking.

Both resident and non-resident individuals can hold a current account.
A resident is an individual with permanent residence in the Republic of Croatia or a person who has lived in the Republic of Croatia based on valid residence permit for at least 183 days. Residents are identified based on valid identification (personal ID card, passport or other appropriate document). Foreign citizens with permanent residence in Croatia are regarded as resident individuals (as evidenced by the personal ID card for foreigners).
A non-resident is an individual with permanent residence outside of Croatia, which is proved by a foreign travelling document (passport or other travelling document accepted by an international agreement).
Croatian citizens with permanent residence and employment outside of Croatia are also considered non-residents (based on a foreign certificate of residence and foreign working permit valid 183 days or longer).

The account is opened in the name of the holder. The following persons are eligible as account holders:

  • Adults and minors over 16 years of age, upon presentation of valid ID
  • Younger minors with a legal guardian; the account is opened in the name of the minor, but only the legal guardian (one of the parents) can dispose of funds in the account. Applicants must submit a copy of the birth certificate and valid ID of the legal guardian.
  • Dependent adults with a legal guardian; the account is opened in the name of the dependent adult, but only the legal guardian can dispose of the funds in the account. Applicants must submit a copy of the decision (ruling) on the appointment of the legal guardian (issued by the Social Welfare Centre) and valid ID of the guardian. The right to dispose of funds in the dependent adult’s account expires with the death of the guardian or the appointment of a new guardian. The right to dispose of funds can be partly restricted by a corresponding decision of the Social Welfare centre. Single withdrawals do not require special decisions of the Social Welfare Centre.

Authorized persons
Besides the account holder, an authorized person of age can dispose of funds in the account.
The account holder can issue a one-time authorization or a permanent authorization. Authorizations issued outside the Bank must be certified by a competent body (notary public, embassy or consulate of the Republic of Croatia). The authorization is non-transferable. All authorizations issued in relation to an account expire with the death of the account holder. The number of authorized persons is limited to two authorized person per account. The authorized person can close the account only with specific written consent of the account holder.

Types of current account

    • requires proof of the amount of monthly income (form sheet containing information about net monthly income, certified by the employer)

  • Current account without regular monthly income – with or without a package
    • without a package – the client uses only the debit card
    • with a package – precondition: savings deposit or use of a student loan
